In a dramatic high-seas operation, the Kenya Navy has intercepted a vessel carrying 1,024 kilograms of narcotics valued at an estimated Sh8.2 billion, roughly 690 kilometers off the Mombasa coast.
The foreign-registered ship was spotted during a routine naval patrol in the Indian Ocean. Upon inspection, officers discovered the illicit cargo carefully concealed in hidden compartments. Six Iranian nationals aboard the vessel were immediately arrested and are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Kenya Navy Commander Major General Jimson Mutai hailed the officers involved, calling the seizure a significant victory in the country’s fight against international drug trafficking.
“This operation sends a strong message to global traffickers — Kenya’s territorial waters are not a safe haven for criminal activity,” said Mutai.
